Join us for an evening curated by NC Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green that will bring the audience face-to-face with artist Beverly McIver. Widely acknowledged as a significant presence in contemporary American art, McIver has charted a new direction as an African American woman artist. Her work reflects her commitment to producing art that consistently examines racial, gender, and social and occupational identity.

McIver’s work is in the collection of the NCMA and can also be found at the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution; Weatherspoon Art Museum; Baltimore Museum of Art; NCCU Museum of Art; Asheville Museum of Art; Crocker Art Museum, Nelson Fine Arts Center Art Museum at Arizona State University; Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, Cameron Art Museum; and Mint Museum as well as significant corporate and private collections. McIver is currently the Ebenshade Professor of the Practice in Studio Arts at Duke University.

The event will be livestreamed. From 6:15–6:45 pm in-person registrants can view McIver's painting Truly Grateful in the Museum galleries.
