Description

During the 13th century, the city of Venice became a vibrant hub for international trade as well as industrial and artistic production. Beginning in the 14th century, ideas originating in the Ottoman Empire were reinterpreted in Venice through paintings, drawings, printed books, decorative arts, and architecture.

Dr. Stefano Carboni, exhibition guest curator and the former chief executive officer of the Museums Commission, Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, explores exhibition themes such as international trade, diplomatic relations, military power, and the importance of international communities in Venice. Dr. Carboni is one of the worldโ€™s most eminent scholars on this topic and curator of the seminal 2007 exhibition Venice and the Islamic World at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
