Effective Monday, October 4, the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources and the North Carolina Museum of Art require film and lecture program participants ages 13 and up to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 NAAT or PCR test result; test results must be within 72 hours of the event. Please plan to have one of these items in hand upon entry for Museum personnel.

The social uses of photography, especially portrait photography, have become commonplace, making it easy to miss the powerful significance of photographing people who are typically left out of the story. Bringing these stories of representation into public spaces is a key artistic motivator for keynote speaker Titus Brooks Heagins and will be one of the topics of his artist talk.

Heagins’s work continues to profess the importance of the portrait as not simply a product of brief encounters between himself, his cameras, and various sitters but as instances of truth. His photographs are representations of lives lived that are often intentionally hidden within social, economic, and judicial structures.

The lecture is preceded by a slide show of artist submissions for Persevere, an outdoor exhibition and projection event in the Museum Park that is part of the Click! Photography Festival.

Tickets go on sale August 20 at 10 am for this event. Please contact our Visitor Experience Department at help@ncartmuseum.org for more information.
