Jazz at the NCMA is excited to kick off this new series with the concert Nina and Me: Ledisi with Special Guest Al Strong.

About Ledisi

It takes a bold talent to step into the shoes of Nina Simone. The 2021 Grammy Award–winning vocalist Ledisi has already shown she’s up for the challenge, taking on the legendary musician’s emotionally searing, socially conscious songs on Ledisi Sings Nina.

With a career spanning almost two decades, she’s garnered three Soul Train Music Awards, an NAACP Theater Award and thirteen NAACP Image Award nominations. Most recently, Ledisi received two LA Alliance Ovation Award nominations, one for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Born in New Orleans and raised in Oakland, CA, she has truly earned a place in the pantheon of the greatest singers of her generation.

About Al Strong

Al Strong is a two-time Grammy-nominated trumpet player, composer, recording artist, and educator. He is lauded for his distinctively unique sound. Whether melting hearts at a whisper volume or being gracefully dynamic when the music calls for more intensity, his natural ability to strike listeners at their core is unmatched.

A cultural innovator, Strong is the cofounder of the Art of Cool nonprofit, which spawned the original Art of Cool Music Festival in Durham, NC, and the StArt of Cool youth summer camp.
