Join the NCMA to celebrate Black culture, wear iconic 1960s fashions, and remember the music as people fought for civil rights in the United States. This event features a dance party with grooves from all soul genres followed by a screening of the Oscar-winning documentary Summer of Soul, directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson.

Questlove makes his filmmaking debut with this powerful musical documentary that also serves as a historical record of the Harlem Cultural Festival, which took place in the summer of 1969. The feature includes concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B. B. King, the 5th Dimension, and more.
