The Way He Looks (2014). Directed by Daniel Ribeiro, 97 min., Portuguese with English subtitles, NR
Leonardo is a blind Brazilian teenager who wants independence from his overprotective family. When Gabriel, a new classmate, arrives, feelings blossom that make Leonardo question his plans to escape. “Brazilian writer-director Daniel Ribeiro displays an assured sense of tone in this debut feature, sustaining an air of fragile beauty but never once slipping into preciousness.” (Chicago Reader)
