In this virtual artist talk and demonstration, Nikita Yogaraj walks participants through techniques for designing and carving linoleum blocks safely by hand, at home, without a traditional press. She demonstrates how to use a carving tool, how to roll out block printing ink and apply it to the block, hand-printing a block onto paper to create a print, different ink applications, and how to label and sign artwork. This block-printing approach can be used to make stamps, holiday cards, art prints, analog zines, and more.
About the artist
South Asian American Nikita Yogaraj (she/her) is a Baltimore artist and printmaker specializing in linocut block prints. Her artwork has portrait and botanical themes, with styles building on protest posters and fiction and nonfiction graphical storytelling.
