About Arturo O'Farrill

Proclaimed by the New York Times as the “leader of the ‘first family of Afro-Cuban jazz,’” pianist, composer, and educator Arturo O’Farrill was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. His professional career began with the Carla Bley Band and continued as a solo performer with a wide spectrum of artists, including Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis, and Harry Belafonte.

O’Farrill has won multiple Grammys for compositions in the albums Cuba: The Conversation Continues, Familia: Tribute to Chico and Bebo, and Four Questions. In 2007 he founded the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the performance, education, and preservation of Afro Latin music. His weekly concerts with the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, dubbed “Virtual Birdland,” topped the list of the 10 Best Quarantine Concerts in the New York Times.

About Veronica Swift

Still early in her professional career, Swift has already developed an impressive repertoire. Raised in Charlottesville, she recorded her first album, Veronica’s House of Jazz, when she was only nine years old. Since graduating from college in 2016, Swift has performed and/or toured with a host of jazz luminaries, including trumpeters Wynton Marsalis and Chris Botti and pianists Benny Green, Michael Feinstein, and Emmet Cohen. On This Bitter Earth, her most recent album, Swift covers multiple genres, including jazz, American musicals, vintage R&B, and contemporary rock.
