The Music at the Museum series started during the pandemic to showcase diverse North Carolina bands that represent our state’s rich musical landscape. Recorded in the Museum galleries and presented with Come Hear North Carolina, this virtual concert series kicked off September 1, 2020, and premiered on PBS North Carolina in April 2021.
This October we welcome back five artists from the Museum’s free livestreamed and PBS–broadcasted Music at the Museum series, this time to the Park Theater stage: Chatham County Line, Rissi Palmer, Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba, Lakota John, and ¡Tumbao!
Can’t catch it in person? There will also be livestreamed components for access from home! Stay tuned for more details soon.
Chatham County Line
Embracing the heart-worn songwriting and rough-hewn voice of leader Dave Wilson, Chatham County Line has graced stages all across the US as well as Europe, Scandinavia, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The band includes Wilson (acoustic and electric guitars, harmonica), John Teer (mandolin, fiddle), Greg Readling (standup bass, pedal steel), and North Carolina staple Dan Hall (drums).
Rissi Palmer
Rissi Palmer‘s gift lies in reaching across all musical boundaries. While she’s made her mark in country, she is equally at home in R&B, bringing the entire spectrum of popular music to bear on what she calls “Southern Soul.” She has toured extensively across the country, sharing stages with Taylor Swift, the Eagles, Chris Young, Charley Crockett, and many more.
Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba
Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba ecstatically explore the spiritual songs, stories, and rhythms of Senegal’s Mandé culture. Cissokho comes from a long line of prominent griots who are entrusted to maintain a West African village’s genealogies and important ceremonial affairs through song. He and his band, Kaira Ba, effortlessly integrate the traditional sounds of the kora with a modern rush of electric guitar and an exuberant rhythm section.
Lakota John
Lakota John is a musician, songwriter, and producer from southeastern North Carolina who has toured nationally and internationally. Influenced by his father’s music collection, he picked up the guitar at the age of seven. Lakota John continues to blend elements of folk, jazz, rock, and blues to create his unique sound while continuing to learn alongside mentors.

¡Tumbao!
¡Tumbao! is a high-energy Latin-fusion band formed by seven seasoned musicians from various genres and backgrounds that creates a sound reflecting the many flavors of Latin America. ¡Tumbao! offers a taste of salsa, bossa, funk, cumbia, Latin rock, R&B, jazz, and brass.
