In this virtual demo, Kelli Thompson shows participants how to combine lines, shapes, and colors to create an abstract painting. We’ll use acrylic paints and dry brush technique to blend super smooth gradients and a ruler and tape to build a simple geometric composition with hard edges. We’ll practice color mixing and learn to work with tints to mimic light and depth within an abstract composition.
Thompson was born in Monroe, Louisiana, in 1982. She received a BA in fine art from the University of New Orleans in 2006 and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston/Tufts University in 2009. Her work has been featured in the Boston Globe, Art Voices magazine, New American Paintings #86, and the New Yorker.
